Kids Bicycle Races This Weekend With O’REILLY / NASCAR Racing Action

August 3, 2026
Staff Report

As we have another Saturday night set for the O’REILLY / NASCAR weekly series racers, officials of the Salina Highbanks Speedway are asking all parents and kids to bring their bicycles to the races this week as there will be bike races for the kids. Rules are basically non-existent. Just run what ya brung. Sissy bar? OK. Banana seat? OK. Carbon fiber frames? OK. Titanium sprockets? Oh why not? Specialized light weight rims that you toss away after one usage? Well sure, we would like to see that! Seriously though, bring anything but gas motor or electrical operated bikes as they will not be allowed for participation for these bike races. Foot power is the way to go!

The weekly program for the O’REILLY / NASCAR weekly series is on tap and as previously addressed, the number of events is starting to click away as there are only a half dozen O’REILLY / NASCAR weekly series events at the track remaining on the 2026 schedule. For those teams that are chasing points, every night, every lap and every car passed is of major importance. For those teams not chasing points, they can let it all hang out and run their cars to the maximum stress limit in search of that checkered flag and the sense of accomplishment that comes with it but time is quickly running out!

Scribble Notes:

Do we have a NASCAR National points leader among us?
Dawson Roofing B-Mod competitor Mitch Keeter had closed to within a scant 2 points of NASCAR’s National Division-1 point standings behind leader Burt Myers of Walnut Cove, North Carolina. National points have not been updated as of press time (from last weekend) and it will be interesting to see if Keeter is the new National points leader after his victory last Saturday night. The Division-1 NATIONAL champion earns a cool $25,000 from NASCAR and other cool swag for the trophy case.

NASCAR National rookie is among us -
Racen Stacy of Muskogee, Oklahoma, (another B-Mod pilot) is listed as the National rookie point leader in Division-1 after events completed on July 25th. Stacey is shown as having a 60 point lead over Jesse Bernhagen of Willard, Wisconsin. We anxiously await the updated points from last weekend to see if Stacy has maintained that rookie lead. The National Division-1 rookie of the year scores a $2,000 bonus and swag.

More local National muscle flexing -
Colvin Aircraft Interceptor hot shoe William Avila of Moore, Oklahoma entered last weekend’s event with a 26 point lead in NASCAR’s Division-4 class over AJ Sanders of Mocksville, North Carolina. With Avila’s 5th Highbanks victory Saturday night and 14th overall for the season, he may have that lead still when the new National points chart is posted.

Hold the phone, there’s one more!
Austin Gammill of Siloam Springs, Arkansas competes in the Colvin Aircraft Tuner class and after the July 25th events, Gammill is the top dog in NASCAR’s Division-5 class with a 68 marker edge over Steven Watts of Kingsport Tennessee. Like Keeter and Avila, Gammill won last Saturday and is expected to retain the point lead for this division.

That’s a total of four drivers making a splash on NASCAR’s National level all at the same time. Let’s wish them all well as they strive for their ultimate successes as the season begins to wind down. Go get ‘em drivers!

3 weeks to sprint car action!
Make sure those calendars are marked for August 22nd as the last sprint car event of 2026 comes to the Highbanks with the Ameri-Flex Hose OCRS sprint cars rolling into town. If open wheel racing is your thing, this is the one to see!
